Border Road, Case Study
On a substantial 13,309m2 site, Border Road in Henderson features 47 new homes of varying sizes. Designed by Context Architects and engineered by Civil Plan Engineers, this 20-month, $30m community is built to accommodate nearly 350 people. The homes in this community are constructed using a combination of fibre cement and timber weatherboards, and the roofs are made with materials supplied by Steel and Tube.
The Border Road project posed numerous challenges, making it one of Signature Construction’s most complex undertakings. We tackled flooding, replaced the entire Watercare and Auckland Council network, and added fire hydrants for safety. Moreover, we efficiently installed a 300-metre thrust wastewater line through marine mud and an old refuse landfill. The project necessitated extensive traffic management, including a tabletop pedestrian crossing.
To address the soft soils, we devised a specialised foundation solution involving 11-metre-deep double helix screw piles combined with polyrock to minimise soil weight increase.
This experience has not only strengthened our skills and team but also showed us the true power of teamwork.
